Local Qualifying Performance

Charlie Woods, son of golf legend Tiger Woods, faced disappointment in the local qualifying round for the U.S. Open. The 15-year-old golfer shot a 9-over-par 81 at the Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Challenging Start

Starting his round with a double bogey, Charlie struggled to find his rhythm amidst stiff competition. Competing against 84 players, Charlie aimed to secure one of the five qualifying spots for the 36-hole final qualifier scheduled for June.

Road to Pinehurst No. 2

The U.S. Open, set to take place at Pinehurst No. 2, is a prestigious event overseen by the United States Golf Association (USGA). With over 10,000 entries received for the tournament, local qualifying rounds are being conducted across the country until May 20.

Expectations and Exemptions

While Tiger Woods, a three-time U.S. Open champion, was not present at the qualifier, speculation surrounds his exemption status for this year’s championship. As Tiger is not currently fully exempt for the U.S. Open, having not been in such a position since turning professional in 1996, discussions of a special exemption from the USGA are anticipated in the coming weeks.
